Faculty and Tutor Appreciation Day

The Faculty & Tutor Appreciation Day was initiated by Holman Learning Center (HLC) Division of Enrollment Services in 2000. The program recognizes and rewards faculty, lecturers, HLC individual tutors and Supplemental Instruction (SI) leaders who have displayed excellent teaching and learning strategies.

What is the Faculty & Tutor Appreciation Day about?

It is a day that has been designated to recognize and honor outstanding faculty, lecturers, HLC individual tutors and SI leaders who have truly made a difference in many Eastern Michigan students’ lives.

Why should I participate?

Faculty, lecturers, HLC individual tutors and SI leaders are here to show you how to increase your ability to persevere and reach both academic and career goals.You have the opportunity to recognize and nominate faculty, lecturers, HLC individual tutors or SI leaders who significantly made an impact on your life, encouraged your dreams and supported your goals while attending EMU!

Who may be nominated for these awards?

Anyone employed at EMU in a faculty/lecturer capacity, individual tutor or SI leader capacity for fall or winter of the academic year.

Who may submit a nomination?

Any EMU student may nominate faculty,lecturers, HLC individual tutors or Supplemental Instruction leaders. EMU faculty and lecturers may nominate SI leaders or HLC individual tutors.

Outstanding Faculty in Supplemental Instruction
Outstanding Lecturer in Supplemental Instruction

This award recognizes SI faculty and lecturers with SI associated in their classes who have demonstrated superior support.

Outstanding Faculty in Classroom Instruction
Outstanding Lecturer in Classroom Instruction

This award recognizes faculty and lecturers who have special interest in students, show enthusiasm about their subject and explore innovative ways to improve classroom experiences.

Outstanding Faculty in a Supporting Role
Outstanding Lecturer in a Supporting Role

This award recognizes faculty and lecturers who nuture the talents, intellect and character of students to successfully compete in a global society.

Outstanding Supplemental Instruction Leader

This award recognizes an SI leader who demonstrates outstanding use of collaborative learning techniques while providing assistance to students participating in SI sessions.

Outstanding Individual Tutor

This award recognizes an HLC individual tutor who encourages students to enjoy the learning process, is a positive role model to students and uses a variety of learning strategies to help students process information.

How do I nominate someone?

To nominate a faculty, lecturer, HLC individual tutor or Supplemental Instruction leader:

  1. Please complete the nomination form. Include a one to two paragraph narrative that describes the nominee's specific contributions.
  2. Provide the nominee's:
    • Name
    • Job Title/Position
    • Local/Campus Address
    • Phone Number
    • Award Category
    • Campus Department/College (needed for faculty nominations only)

Faculty, lecturers, HLC individual tutors and SI leaders cannot be nominated for the same award two consecutive years.

Faculty, lecturers, HLC individual tutors and SI leaders can be nominated for more than one category.

What is the deadline for nominations?

The nomination deadline date is Friday, March 14, 2008, by 12 noon.

Who selects the winners?

Award winners are selected by a committee of students, staff, faculty and/or lecturers.

When will the winners be announced?

Winners will be announced at the Faculty and Tutor Appreciation Awards Program on Monday, March 31, 2008.
